With the swell maxing out at the northern beaches Sydney Bodyboard Club ventured to Manly in search of makeable waves. Manly was the backup location from Whaley and with fun waves we got to show Manly our great sport. The competitors threw down as usual but with mother nature on our side we had a few gems. Big rolls and even bigger flips were on the menu at South Stein, Joshua Kleve flipped his way into first place in the AAA, while, in AA Jack Wren rolled into first. As usual we couldn’t make this possible if it wasn't for our amazing team that works hard behind the scenes to make these comps possible. Big thanks also to the amazing sponsors that continue to help out our club; Bodyboard King, NMD Board Co, Bali Bodyboarding and Movement Magazine. See below for the video and some photos, keep posted on the socials for the next comp.

Today was the last comp of 2017, held in Curl Curl. Conditions proved tough but cleaned up as the day went on producing some fantastic waves for those who could find them. Josh being one of them, he managed to find a gem right on the buzzer and with that took he took a very nice score. The results from today's comp will be withheld until the presentation on the 24th of November. Thanks to Tina for doing a fantastic job with the food, and also thanks to all the people keeping scores. Huge shoutout to all the sponsors for sticking it out with us for this amazing year. Sydney Bodyboard club’s 5th comp of the year was epic, with AAA’s sending it in 6ft plus classic Wedge at Whale Beach. The charges of the club flipped their way out of bowls and exited out of wide barrels. The challenging conditions saw Josh taking it out followed by Miguel and Joey. Big thanks to Felicity and Tina for always cooking up a storm, the brownies were amazing. Thanks to all our sponsors NMDStox, Bodyboard King, Bali Bodyboarding, Amazon Power, Movement Magazine, Butchers Delight, Sun Zapper. Sick times untill next time Sydney Bodyboard Club.

A pale winters sun, crisp westerly winds, a groomed 3-5ft swell and a herd of frothing bodyboarders converged at Mona Vale beach for the fourth SBC competition of 2017. A location that offers a consistent and punchy rip bowl, a novelty suck rock and a notorious ‘womp’ing shore break has undoubtedly earned itself the recognition as the bodyboarding epicentre of the northern beaches. All the club members were stoked to finally be competing at this iconic beach break once again. The morning was commenced with Ben Player imparting some of his wisdom about surfing well in bigger waves. These tips involved staying calm and not panicking by counting your breaths, and how longer, and more drawn out bottom turns are essential to surfing well in larger conditions. After the tide reached its peak for the morning, and begun to drain out at around 8:30 AM, the comp went underway with AAA’s first in the water. Tactical heats were surfed as the waits between waves were long. Some notable combos were thrown down by Moz and Ricky as they utilized the ripbowl to its full potential. But it was Miguel’s giant, rib shattering rolls that stole the attention of the crowd which had gathered to watch this bodyboarding spectacle. Moz ended up taking out AAA with some critical combos and some nice barrels. AA’s were in the water next with a straight, six-man final. The swell had slowly been dropping throughout the day but there were still many more ramps and barrels erupting on the Mona Vale sandbanks. Trent and Angus were throwing down some clean moves on critical sections but it was Will Morris that claimed first place, surfing a tactical heat and launching an arm- extended roll on a set wave. The Mens heat saw the same, slow yet clean conditions. A battle of the masters, as Nick C and Aaron M went wave for wave in a tight heat. Their experience became evident as competitors strung together some spin to roll combinations with clean lines and smooth flow. Tensions erupted in the water this heat with a hot-headed mona local blowing up, and swinging at competitors. Despite this, Aaron Mihelic managed to take out top spot with some clean and consistent riding, continuing this close rivalry with Nick Chandler. Drop Knee was up next. No surprises here as Antonio, in his element, began to use his wave limit in variety of ways. Spinners to slick exposed hack combos on the rights, or pulling into 5ft close out barrels on the lefts, throwing twice the number of buckets than any of the local standups. Will R, Jono M, and Joey all got several decent waves but could not keep up with this Portuguese shredder. As the day came to a close it is safe to say that all the boys got some some sick waves, and had a good time feasting on felicity’s wonderful cooking. With another Bunning’s BBQ on the horizon, and comp 5 in September things are looking good for SBC.
